Churchill’s wartime radio broadcasts from London would not have been the same without his trusty dentures!
In his wartime radio broadcasts from London, Churchill’s distinctive voice was instantly recognisable. He wanted it to stay that way, so he had his dentures designed specifically to preserve his lisp.
His dentures were made by a young dental technician called Derek Cudlipp, and until recently a set of the dentures has been in his family since Churchill’s death – the dentures were sold at auction for £15,200.
Before the war only the wealthiest Londoners could have afforded dentures, this dental technology would have been the preserve of the rich! Today there are thousands of Denture wearers in London, although some people consider dentures to be old fashioned and whilst there are other more modern options available e.g. implants and bridges, we at Pure Smiles are proud to offer Cosmetic Dentures. These innovative dentures are made using a high strength flexible material, allowing the dentures to be made without the use of metal wires or clasps. Their flexibility also increases the retention of these dentures, allowing you to smile and eat with confidence again.
Planning a denture case requires a thorough assessment of your functional and cosmetic needs. With feedback from you throughout the fabrication process, we are able to create a natural looking smile.
Dentures can be fabricated in acrylic or metal bases, with many different tooth shades and shapes.
If you are unhappy with your existing dentures, we would be pleased to help. If you live in London, in the Fulham area or in nearby boroughs such as Putney and Chelsea or Kensington, the team at Pure Smiles is more than happy to help you with any problems concerning dentures.
